All products sold by OEO are designed to achieve the highest possible standard of environmental acceptability measurable in the industry.

 

All testing is conducted to OSPAR requirements and reported to member countries (including the UK and Norway) via HOCNF.

 

Testing conducted on OEO products includes:

 

  • Bioaccumulation testing to ascertain the likelihood of each product component to bio-accumulate in the environment.
  • Biodegradation testing to determine the speed and extent of biodegradation in the marine environment.
  • Toxicity testing to quantify the toxicity effects on marine organisms living on the seabed, the surface of the sea and within the water column.

 

Under UK Environmental Legislation products are assessed for biodegradation, toxicity and bioaccumulation to OSPAR standards and ultimately awarded an OCNS Usage Category consisting of a Letter between A-E with A being the worst class and E being the best class obtainable.

 

OCNS Class E products are the preferred category for use offshore and Operators strive towards using Class E products wherever feasible.

 

ALL Environmental Oils sold be OEO have obtained an OCNS Class E with no substitutable components which is the best possible class obtainable under UK Law.

 

In comparison, standard mineral oil products typically fall under a Class A WITH substitutable components, the worst class possible.

 

Under Norwegian Legislation products are awarded a colour code consisting of Black, Red, Yellow Y3, Yellow Y2, Yellow Y1, Yellow and Green Zone with Black being the worst (banned) and Yellow/Yellow Y1 being the best (with the exception of Green Zone which is a special class for products produced from additives on the PLONOR List).

 

All Environmental oils sold by OEO are Yellow/Yellow Y1 for discharge in Norway.

 

In comparison, standard mineral oil products are typically classified as BLACK for discharge in Norwegian waters, the worst class possible.

Topside Environmental Oils
For Topside systems the main product portfolio is designed around our EO (Environmental Oil) range comprising different ISO viscosity grades such as EO08, EO12, EO18, EO32, EO68, EO100, EO150 and EO220.

This product range is designed to replace mineral oils across a wide range of topside hydraulic systems and offers customers an OCNS Class E (UK) and Yellow 1 (Norwegian) Environmental profile.
Subsea  Control Fluids
CLEO is an Environmental Oil based subsea production control fluid capable of operation between -45°C and +250°C and is designed for super high temperature/high pressure wells and closed loop systems utilising a return line to platform.

HDEO Range fluids are High Density, Environmental Oil based Subsea Actuator Fluids, designed for applications where a specific gravity greater than seawater is required.
CLEO Environmental Oil
CLEO is a High Temperature Environmental Oil based Subsea Control Fluid. It was developed to bridge the technology gap between water based fluids and the extreme HP/HT developments of the future, by providing a very stable high temperature fluid capable of maintaining temperatures in excess of 250°C for a project lifetime.

In addition, with the potential future requirements for closed loop systems in some sectors this environmental oil is not only acceptable for direct discharge to sea, but is designed to offer all the properties of traditional oil based fluids in closed loop systems.
